Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's clear crystalline lens and is usually the result of aging. Because cataracts often progress slowly, most patients are unaware that they have a visual problem as their brain's perception of what they see has accepted this compromised vision.

Dr. Robbins always uses the latest and safest techniques for cataract removal. Dr. Robbins performs cataract surgery in the Robbins Eye Center's fully licensed, Medicare-approved, and AAAHC-accredited onsite surgery center. She currently performs a no-shot, no- stitch procedure employing a small incision using a wave optimized acrylic, collamer or silicone implant. This allows for a rapid return of vision. Most patients resume their normal activities within twenty-four hours.

Symptoms of Cataracts
  • Gradual change in vision - vision loss is slow, painless, yet progressive
  • Frequent change of glasses
  • Fluctuations in vision
  • Poor night vision - self-imposed limit for night driving
Diagnosis and Treatment

After a dilated eye examination, Dr. Robbins can evaluate the severity of the clouded lens and the health of the optic nerve and retina. It is important to note that there comes a point when not having the cataract removed can impede an optimal visual result. In most cases, if the optic nerve and retina are healthy, clear vision will be restored.

As one of the leading cataract centers in the U.S., the Robbins Eye Center is able to offer cataract care options you will not have with many other eye doctors. You can choose from traditional cataract surgery or new technology cataract options that could give you back distance vision as well as reading and mid vision. Dr. Robbins is also able to correct astigmatism as part of your cataract surgery.

Dr. Robbins was one of the first eye surgeons in the country permitted to use new technology options for cataract patients. Dr. Robbins has performed new technology cataract surgery since 2004 and has more experience in this surgery than any other eye surgeon in Connecticut. In fact, Dr. Robbins has performed more new technology cataract surgery than all other eye surgeons in Connecticut combined. You can be at ease with Dr. Robbins' extensive cataract surgery skill as well as the options available to you at the Robbins Eye Center.
